Head Office Team
Arjan Visser, Founder and Advisor, based in Malawi from 2009-2015, has worked for more than 10 years in the energy sector providing strategy and energy consulting services to governments, donors, NGOs and companies. He introduced the innovative concept of electricity kiosks in Malawi as a spin-off of a strategy he developed to accelerate access to electricity in rural communities. Prior to coming to Malawi, he was a strategy consultant for more than five years with Accenture, a global consulting firm, developing and implementing strategies for leading national utility companies. Arjan holds a graduate diploma in Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science (UK); and an MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management from the University of Twente (The Netherlands).
Deus Byson, Managing Director, has been working as an electrical engineer and telecom specialist since 1999 in Malawi and Chad. He has been working for more than 10 years with one of the biggest mobile phone operators in Malawi (more than two million customers) as a specialist engineer, manager of packet data and all value-adding services beyond standard voice calls and fax transmissions. He also worked with a French based comp
any (Roamic) as a consultant on roaming, a technology for using a mobile phone on another operator's network. He studied Telecommunication Electronics at the Multimedia University (Malaysia) and Electrical Engineering at the University of Malawi (Polytechnic).
Upire Chiwanda, Head of Marketing, has vast experience in various senior marketing and entrepreneurial positions for more than 15 years. He has worked as a marketing manager for a large textile company, set up a franchise of a company selling motor vehicles and established a trading company for mining equipment.
Kidwell Mbedza, Senior Engineer, has been working as a Business Support Systems (BSS) and Power Engineer for more than 8 years with one of the biggest mobile phone operators in Malawi (more than two million customers) and for more than 2 years as an IT technician with Malawi SNDP a national program to assist in the development of Internet and Information Services with emphasis on sustainable development. He studied ICT (specialisation: Systems Support) at the University of Malawi (Polytechnic).
Nancy Chinyanya, Kiosk Supervisor, has vast experience as a manager and entrepreneur, winning the Entrepreneur of the Year award for Mulanje district in 2010. She has worked for more than 19 years in the tourism sector starting as a receptionist and promoted to general manager of reputable lodges in Malawi. She started her own restaurant in 2011. She is currently working with E4A on the solar electricity kiosk project and has expertise in the use of solar energy generation by female entrepreneurs in rural areas. She received her Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management, a three-year program at the Malawi Institute of Tourism.
Ngwiro Mchakama, Accountant, studied financial accounting at PACT College (Malawi) and Information Technology at the Macmaine School of Computing (Malawi). He has been trained as a chartered accountant with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, the global body for professional accountants.
